Sustainability

In the United States, more than 300 million pairs of shoes are thrown away each year, and billions of shoes are discarded globally. Our mission is to change that by making high quality footwear that will last you many years.

High quality leather will far outlast synthetic options. When it does come time to dispose of your footwear, leather is much more biodegradable than alternatives. Leather will naturally break down over a shorter period of time while synthetics can take decades and even centuries to completely break down. By choosing leather footwear, you are choosing a product that will last and when it does come to the end of its life, will be easily biodegradable.

A common misconception is that animals are killed for their hides. That is simply not true. Leather is the byproduct of hunting and the meat industry. If it wasn’t for our tannery friends, these beautiful skins would be thrown into landfills and wasted. Instead, you can choose to extend or give new life to these animals.

Unlike synthetic leathers made from petroleum-based materials, leather doesn’t release microplastics into the environment and requires less energy-intensive production processes. Tanneries are increasingly adopting eco-friendly tanning methods, like vegetable tanning, to reduce chemical use and ensure leather remains a cleaner material choice.

Leather is about creating products that last, feel good, and truly respect our environment. When you choose leather over synthetic alternatives, you’re choosing durability, biodegradability, and a product that can last. We would love to see our sandals be passed down through generations, however we have not been in business that long, so only time will tell.
